SEO and AEO are two different jobs
SEO earns you a position in a list of results. AEO — Answer Engine Optimisation — earns you a citation inside an AI-generated answer. A growing share of Malaysian buyers now put their question to ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews and act on the answer without opening a results page. If your business is not among the sources those answers name, you were never in the running.
We run them as one engagement because they share foundations, but we measure them separately. SEO is measured in rankings and organic traffic. AEO is measured in citation share — how often an assistant names you for the questions your buyers actually ask.
The first 30 days
Every engagement opens with a full technical audit. You receive a written findings document covering:
- Crawler access, tested live against your server — we send requests as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, Googlebot and Bingbot, and record exactly what each one gets back. This is the check most audits skip, and it is the one that decides whether anything else matters. A site can have a permissive robots.txt and still be hard-blocked by its CDN.
- A complete structured data inventory — every schema type on every page, and every page carrying none
- Page-level findings — titles, meta descriptions, canonicals, heading structure, duplicate Open Graph output, thin content, image alt coverage
- Sitemap forensics — URLs blocked by your own robots.txt, staging or admin URLs leaked into public sitemaps, duplicates
- Speed and caching — cached and uncached response times, page weight, compression, image payload, and what is loading on every request that should not be
- A prioritised fix list, ordered by impact rather than by how easy it is to bill
Findings come with a readiness score so you can see movement over time rather than taking our word for it.
Implementation
We do the work, not just the report. Implementation typically covers technical fixes on the site itself, structured data (Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, Product and Article as applicable), robots and llms.txt configuration, page speed and image optimisation, internal linking, and rewriting key commercial pages to lead with answers rather than build to them.
Everything is implemented on a copy or in an isolated, single-file layer wherever the platform allows, so any change can be reversed cleanly. Nothing goes live on your site without your approval.
What you get each month
- A progress report comparing this month against your baseline — not a dashboard screenshot
- Rankings, organic traffic and conversions, reported as enquiries rather than impressions
- AI citation tracking against a prompt set built from your real sales conversations, run across the major assistants, showing how often you are named and which competitors are named instead
- The month's implemented changes, itemised
- Next month's priorities
How long it takes
Most Malaysian websites see measurable movement within three to six months, depending on domain age, competition and how much technical debt the site carries. Locality-based and long-tail commercial terms move before broad head terms.
AEO can move faster. Where a site has been blocked from AI crawlers, unblocking it changes visibility within weeks, because there is no ranking queue to climb — only an access problem to remove.
What we need from you
Access to the site, Google Search Console and analytics — granted to us, with accounts remaining in your name throughout. Sign-off on published copy. And a contact who can confirm facts we cannot verify ourselves: certifications, licence numbers, client names, service guarantees. We will not invent those, and we will not publish them unconfirmed.
Two things genuinely require you rather than us: Google Business Profile verification, which needs identity confirmation only the business owner can complete, and relationship-led outreach for third-party mentions. We prepare both; you authorise and send.
What we will not promise
We will not promise a specific position on a specific date, and we will not guarantee a citation in an AI answer. Neither Google nor the AI platforms sell placement, so nobody can deliver it — and anyone telling you otherwise is describing something outside their control. What we commit to is the work itself, reported honestly, with the numbers shown either way.
Start by checking whether you are visible at all
Our guide, Is Your Website Blocked From ChatGPT?, walks through three checks you can run yourself in about five minutes. New to the term? Start with our 2026 guide to Answer Engine Optimisation for Malaysian businesses, or the detail on the five schema types Malaysian SMEs actually need.
Where this fits with your other marketing
Organic search compounds; paid search stops when the budget does. Most clients run both, using Google Ads to learn which terms convert, then investing organically in the ones that prove profitable. If the site itself is the constraint — slow, dated or structurally unsound — corporate website development is the place to start rather than optimising a foundation that needs replacing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does SEO take to show results in Malaysia?
Most Malaysian websites begin to see measurable movement in rankings and organic traffic within three to six months, depending on domain age, competition and how much technical debt the site is carrying. Highly competitive commercial keywords generally take longer than long-tail and locality-based terms.
What is the difference between SEO and AEO?
SEO optimises for ranking in a list of blue links. AEO — Answer Engine Optimisation — optimises for being cited inside an AI-generated answer on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews or Gemini. AEO depends on AI crawler access, structured data and answer-shaped content, and it is now a separate discipline from classic SEO.
Do I still need SEO if I already run Google Ads?
Yes. Ads stop producing the moment you stop paying; organic search and AI citations continue to compound. In practice the two reinforce each other — search query data from Ads shows you exactly which terms are worth investing in organically.
Will my website be found by ChatGPT and other AI assistants?
Only if AI crawlers are allowed to read it. Many websites unknowingly block GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot at the server, CDN or robots.txt level — Cloudflare in particular changed its defaults to block AI bots. Checking and correcting crawler access is the first step of any AEO engagement.
Does Stelix Media work with businesses outside Klang Valley?
Yes. We are based in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, and work with clients across Malaysia. SEO and AEO work is delivered remotely, with onsite consultation available where a project calls for it.
How is AEO measured if there are no rankings?
By citation share — how often an AI assistant names your business when asked the questions your buyers ask. We build a prompt set from your real sales conversations, run it against ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini on a schedule, and track how often you appear and which competitors appear instead.
Can you do SEO for a website you did not build?
Yes, and most of our SEO clients came to us with an existing site. We start with a technical audit so you know what you are working with. Occasionally the honest finding is that the site is too structurally limited to optimise economically — if that is the case we will tell you rather than bill months of work against a foundation that cannot carry it.
Do you need access to my website to do SEO?
Yes. Meaningful SEO requires changes to the site itself — structure, markup, page speed, content. We also need Google Search Console and analytics access to measure. You keep ownership of all accounts throughout; we work with access granted to us, not accounts held by us.
